  • Over the last 6 months, my work environment has been so hostile that I’ve had to find a therapist and have been prescribed anti-anxiety medication. Pearl Chiu (Vice-President, Operations) regularly harassed and blamed me for the problems VISA has created on NexJ Systems’s back-end. Most memorably, Pearl called me a “disappointment”. I have been accused of playing favorites by helping my colleagues who call me with travel emergencies after hours because VISA has either not completed the process or something needs to be changed and VISA doesn’t respond. A few weeks ago, the Sales team was in Dubai and needed to change their hotel to move away from a civil unrest, and VISA just didn’t answer the phone. Pearl and Karen showed me zero respect. My job was reduced to data entry, though I was promised countless times that this was not going to happen. As a dedicated, loyal employee of nearly four years, this was extremely frustrating. Pearl and Karen completely invalidated the processes I worked so hard to put in place. Pearl made empty promises to “do whatever she could to help me”; including having weekly meetings to make sure VISA was providing me with sufficient information to complete the reconciliation, so that I could get back to my actual job description of supporting sales teams. We never had one meeting – not one. After Pearl Chiu spent several minutes going on about how she “gets” the job and “gets” me, she was overheard upstairs complaining about me to my colleagues, within ear shot of at least a dozen people. This is from the Vice-President, Operations? Wow. I made many attempts to talk to other people about my grievances and was intimated to keep my mouth shut. When intimidation wasn’t being used, my attempts to speak out were met with total inaction. Eventually, I stopped wasting my breath. No one was listening. NexJ’s travel spending has sky rocketed and this is also somehow ignored by both Pearl and Karen. Wasting a quarter of a million dollars a month seems like a large issue to me, one that ought not to continue to be swept under the rug. I am not the only person at NexJ Systems who has deep reservations about Pearl and Karen, there are dozens of people with even more complains, many of whom have confided in me and the stories are shocking and disappointing. Very few people at NexJ Systems trust HR (for good reason) and won’t go to Karen because the two of them made it very clear that they are a team. The squash complaints and pretend that everything is fine – this is a dangerous game.
